This program will encourage participants to consider their moral response to our changing climate by examining the thought of Laudato Si by Pope Francis as well as other statements by prominent religious leaders. In addition, we will look at the whole range of technical and political responses to our climate crisis using the comprehensive presentation in How To Avoid a Climate Disaster, a recent book by Bill Gates.
Participants will engage in conversation using the thought of Pope Francis and other moral leaders, inviting them to a deeper moral perspective on the urgent need to work at climate change. Participants will also be introduced to a whole variety of responses, both technical and political, in order to be more aware and to choose responses they especially want to support.
For each session, passages from Laudato Si will be provided for advance reading. Each session will also include a chapter-by-chapter presentation of ideas from the Bill Gates book.
Participants will be encouraged to read and purchase the Gates book, but it will not be required reading.
