Food for the Journey

This program is for Spiritual Directors, Retreat Leaders, Pastoral Ministers and those who have made the full spiritual exercises.

Come, join the gathered community as we engage conversation with Dr. Frederick Bauerschmidt through his text, Why the Mystics Matter Now (ISBN: 1-893732-71-1) . Karl Rahner, SJ (1904 – 1984) prophetically announced, “The Christian of the future will be a mystic or will not exist at all.” We will explore the question, “What is a mystic?” by way of engaging mystical writers from the Christian tradition.

If you’ve ever wondered about the mystical writers, but found their writing inaccessible, then this series is for you! We will meet Thomas Merton, Thérèse of Lisieux, Hildegard of Bingen, Julian of Norwich, Meister Eckhart, Ignatius of Loyola, and Catherine of Siena, gleaning from each practical advice for living the Christian life today.

These four study/prayer sessions are designed to enrich our personal spiritual deepening for ministry. Our gatherings will include prayer (silent and communal), input, and faith-sharing, based on our prayerful reading of the text. To facilitate the process, chapter assignments will be communicated and should be read in advance. The only pre-requisite for participating in these sessions is a desire to embrace God in the whole of your life.

Series will take place in the Main Chapel at Jesuit Retreat Center, Parma (5629 State Road)

Program cost for the series is $120 due by August 17, 2022
