Lenten Weekend Retreat

“Do This in Memory of Me”

These simple yet profound words, said by Jesus immediately after His consecrating bread and wine and giving them to us as His Body and Blood, will be the overall theme of this Lenten weekend retreat.

As a close friend, each of us will follow Jesus by praying on key events of His final hours: from the Last Supper through Easter morning, while focusing on his invitation to become a beloved disciple of His, even to become Eucharist as He did.

The weekend will include presentations, small and large group conversation as well as ample time for personal prayer and reflection. Participants will access to all the facilities at the Jesuit Retreat Center as well as our 57 wooded acres.

This is a silent retreat to help us listen to God as deeply as we can. Still, it is an option; for those who need to talk, it will be available during meals. Silence throughout the house is requested at all other times.

Cost of retreat includes private room and five meals.

Financial aid is available through the JRC Arrupe Fund. All participants will be required to pay the minimum deposit of $25 to attend the event. See below to apply, then check your email to complete your application.

Fr. Bernie Owens is a member of the Midwest Province of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). He recently returned from Nairobi, Kenya in East Africa where for five years he guided many people making retreats according to the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola and taught part-time in the Jesuit seminary in Nairobi. He was formerly a member of the ministry staff at Manresa Jesuit Retreat House in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

He is the author of two books: Could Ever Imagine: On Our Becoming Divine tells the story of our Passover into God, how God transforms us into another Christ, freed from our self-centeredness to relate selflessly and with God’s love to others, to the world, to God, and to our own self. Realizing Our Deepest Desires: Experiencing God As Never Before tells of how God evokes, stage by stage, the deepest and most pure desires of our soul, the best parts of ourself, so that we can become the best of friends with Him and a Beloved Disciple of Jesus.

In August of 2019, Fr. Owens began a new ministry at St. John’s Jesuit High School and Academy in Toledo, providing Ignatian programs for parents, faculty and staff and alumni.
