Join us for a Tuesday morning book group led by Fr. Bernie Owens, SJ. We will be reading The Return of the Prodigal Son, a classic written by Fr. Henri Nouwen.
Already a classic in Christian spiritual circles and an all-time favorite for many readers, this superb work of Fr. Nouwen will inspire you to a more mature, humble life in the Holy Spirit. It is instructive, through many examples including Nouwen’s own personal sharings, of how you can enter more fruitfully into the spirit of this year’s seasons of Lent and Easter.
The book begins with a close study of Rembrandt’s masterful painting of the prodigal son (see Luke 15) and of Rembrandt’s own personal journey as the prodigal finding his way home to God. It continues with powerful reflections on the prodigal son in the Gospel parable and some humbling insights into the older, judgmental brother. Finally, it focuses on the Father of these two sons and on the depths of His Divine, compassionate Heart. Immensely consoling, the final pages contemplate a God, like the best father or mother, being willing to suffer everything to bring each and all of us home to be with Him and one another forever.
NOTE: If weather forces us to cancel a meeting, we will meet the following week on the same day of the week and at the same time.
If you are unable to join us on Tuesday mornings, see our Monday evening group!
