Using Teilhard de Chardin’s earliest writings, Writings in Time of War, we will explore his understanding of mysticism, and how it can enrich our own understanding of our own unifying with God.
Teilhard wrote his early essays on mysticism not in a monastery but during the horrific trench warfare of World War 1, where he was a stretcher-bearer for the French army. His later, and better-known writings, were all based on his mystical insights from the war years. In this course, we will explore some of his powerful and insightful first writings and reflect on their meaning for our lives.
This course will include short presentations.
Program facilitator Mike Reiling M.Ed. is a retired high school theology teacher and serious student of Teilhard de Chardin S.J. Mike leads classes on contemporary spirituality using Teilhard’s evolutionary and mystical perspective.
