HomeSpiritual DirectionSeeking a Spiritual Director

What is Spiritual Direction?

Your desire to seek Spiritual Direction often reflects a longing for “More” — a deeper awareness of God’s presence and action in your life.

Spiritual Direction is a ministry of holy listening. In monthly conversations with a trained spiritual director, you are invited to reflect on your relationship with God, your prayer, and the movements of your daily life. Together, you attend to how God is present, inviting, consoling, and challenging you.

Spiritual Direction helps you:

  • Deepen your relationship with God
  • Grow in spiritual awareness and discernment
  • Recognize what draws you closer to — or away from — God
  • Reflect prayerfully on the experiences of your daily life

What Spiritual Direction Is Not

  • Therapy or psychological counseling
  • Problem-solving or advice-giving
  • Pastoral counseling
  • A faith-sharing group
  • Scripture/Bible study
  • Catechesis or religious instruction

While life challenges and personal struggles may be discussed, the focus remains on your relationship with God and how the Spirit is moving in your life.

What to Expect

  • Sessions are typically held once a month and last 40–60 minutes.
  • An initial meeting allows you and a potential director to discern whether it feels like a good fit.
  • Some directors request a modest fee ($0–$50 per session), though many adjust based on financial circumstances.

If you feel called to explore Spiritual Direction, begin by completing the Spiritual Director Request Form. We will prayerfully recommend directors who may be a good companion for your journey.
