Dear Friend of JRH,

At a the closing of a recent retreat group, I reminded the retreatants that God peels away layer-by-layer of our guilt and our burdens to tease forth, or bring to surface, the person God made us to be. In other words, we are always on the way, but not there yet. Lots of work to be done. Lots of prayer to be said aiding the ‘peeling’, the stripping away of layers of selfishness and short sightedness that blur the health of our spiritual lives, the well-being of our souls.

The directors of this retreat reminded the retreatants that they had choices, and the only way to recognize God in their lives is to make those choices positive. Most of them were imprisoned by years of a windowless and cell-like existence of slavery to addiction. But they could make choices! And that was the subject of their retreat: make your choices and become the person God created you to be.

In this group of people, I found persons deeply in love with God and seeking God’s direction to move in peace, one step-at-a-time along the journey toward spiritual fulfillment and peace.

You can do the same.

Christian philosopher, Soren Kierkegaard said it so well as indicated in the above quote: you can make yourself happy; unburden yourself from what keeps you from being totally a new person. Choose the JRH to settle into a place of peace with a spiritual director who will help you find the person who hides within. Call us to register for a private retreat this summer when all nature takes on new life beckoning you to do the same. You will be so excited in your renewal. After all, you’re the one we are waiting for…

Sr. Mary Ann Flannery, S.C., Executive Director
