A Word from the Director

As we go forth in service to God’s people, we are inspired by the life and example of Ignatius Loyola. Don’t miss Howard Gray, SJ’s continuing reflection on how Ignatius’s spiritual formation took place out of his everyday life. (See page 2.) Here is where our ministries are taking us this fall:

Lay Leadership Advisory Committee: This committee meets tri-annually and is comprised of 13 members who represent diverse perspectives on leadership and Ignatian spirituality. The September meeting focused on our marketing and communications efforts. Melanie Sklarz, a member of JRH’s Marketing Team, was present to share insights from her professional background and experience. New committee members include: Margaret Balewski, of St. Basil the Great Parish, Judy Cauley, CSJ, educator and futurist, Alan Kolp, professor of religion at Baldwin Wallace University and Eric Muller-Girard, Presbyterian deacon and elder.

Praying with St. Ignatius Parish Retreats. The 8-week retreats continue this month at Holy Trinity Parish, Avon and St. Dominic Parish, Shaker Heights. A total of 59 retreatants are engaged in this retreat under the guidance of 14 lay leaders.

Nurturing the Call. Peggy Duffy, OSU continues this 4-part program which began last month. 16 participants (all leaders of the Praying with St. Ignatius or the Spirituality Program for Adults Retreats) are gathering to hone their skills in leading Gospel-based Ignatian prayer forms. Details on page 2.

Food for the Journey. We begin the 3-part book reflection series based on John O’Donohue’s Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom. This program which is open to spiritual directors, retreat leaders, pastoral ministers and those who have made the full Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, will continue through December. Details on page 2.
