Dear Friend of Jesuit Retreat House,
As we turn the calendar to the New Year and ponder what lies ahead in 2017, it is a time of great excitement at JRH. As you may be aware and can see in the photo below, the construction of our new addition is progressing rapidly and we are pleased to report that the project is on schedule. We anticipate opening and using the addition in late May, followed by the extensive renovation and updating of our current building through the summer, with completion and use by mid-September.
However, what is even more exciting than the new facilities is what will take place within them. The setting at JRH is beautiful and is experienced as a place of peace and serenity by countless people. The building and grounds are sacred vessels of ministry. It is the grace of God flowing through the people and programs, the activity in our building and grounds, that makes JRH so uplifting. With our expanded physical capacity comes new and expanded program offerings. Our vision and dream of being able to better serve more people will begin to come to fruition this year. Our board, staff and committees are hard at work, discerning and planning how we will enhance what we do and reach new audiences in bringing the gift of Ignatian spirituality more deeply into our world. While our programs and numbers will grow, our commitment to all-embracing hospitality, to prayer and reflection, and to inspiring, relevant retreats remains.
What makes all of this possible? The great generosity of many people who believe in and co-create the good that we do. To those of you who have pledged or donated to our capital campaign to fund this building project, we offer our deepest thanks. For those who have not yet had the opportunity to participate in the campaign, prayerfully consider how you can best express your care and support for JRH with a gift. We are in the midst of raising the final third of our $8 million goal, and we trust in the care of each and every member of our JRH community and beyond to garner the needed contributions. To support our campaign efforts, we are grateful to have in place a new development team, Mary Bondy and Kevin Gladstone, introduced on the next page. Please pray for all our efforts!
God be with you,
Richard S. Krivanka, Executive Director
