Parma, Ohio. April 29, 2026. The Jesuit Retreat Center (JRC) in Parma, Ohio, after a national search, is pleased to announce the appointment of Fr. Michael Marco, S.J., as its next Executive Director. His appointment has been approved by the Board of the Jesuit Retreat Center.
Fr. Marco brings a distinguished background in Jesuit education and leadership, having spent the majority of his career in academic ministry. He previously served as President of Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, from 2003 to 2010, where he was widely respected for his collaborative management, leadership, commitment to mission, and ability to build strong relationships within the community.
“I am grateful for the prayerful discernment of all involved in this process and for Fr. Mike’s generous ‘yes’ to this call,” said Tim Merriman, Board Chair. “His leadership, grounded in Ignatian spirituality, will help continue the Jesuit Retreat Center’s long tradition of offering a place of reflection, prayer, and encounter with God.”
Returning to Northeast Ohio, Fr. Marco brings with him deep familiarity with the region and longstanding personal and professional connections. His experience in leadership, fundraising, and spiritual formation, along with his pastoral presence, positions him well to guide the Jesuit Retreat Center in advancing its mission.
“I am honored to be chosen to lead the Jesuit Retreat Center and thrilled to be returning to Northeast Ohio. I look forward to getting started and meeting the JRC community,” said Fr. Michael Marco, S.J.
Fr. Marco will complete his current assignment as President at Marquette University High School before beginning a four-month sabbatical. He is scheduled to assume his role as Executive Director on October 1, 2026.
The Jesuit Retreat Center Board of Directors, together with the staff and extended community, extends its sincere appreciation to Ms. Mary Jo Lupica for her faithful and dedicated service as Interim Director. Her steady leadership and commitment to the mission have been invaluable during this period of transition. Ms. Lupica will continue in this role until Fr. Marco begins his ministry on October 1, 2026.
The Jesuit Retreat Center, rooted in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, provides opportunities for individuals and groups to deepen their relationship with God through prayer, silence, and spiritual direction in a peaceful, natural setting.
